Natural Skin Chews

Skin chews are one of my go-to recommendations: a natural, single-ingredient chew that keeps dogs busy and happy. There's a skin for every size of dog and every appetite, from a light nibble to a proper chunky chew.

🚫 A natural alternative to rawhide

Rawhide is one of the most common dog chews out there, really commonly seen in supermarkets and high street pet shops. It's also one I'd strongly steer you away from. Here's why:

• It's heavily processed. Rawhide is the inner layer of a cow's hide, usually a by-product of the leather industry. To get it from hide to chew, it's often soaked in chemical solutions to strip the hair and fat, then bleached, and sometimes coloured, flavoured and glued into shapes.
• You often can't tell where it's come from. A lot of rawhide is imported, and the label rarely tells you how it's been made.
• It can cause serious blockages. As dogs chew rawhide, it turns soft and gummy, and big chunks can be bitten off and swallowed. Those chunks don't break down. They can get stuck in the stomach or intestines and block food from passing through. In my 25+ years as a vet nurse, I've seen it many times: dogs needing surgery to remove a rawhide blockage. It's not something I'd ever give my own dogs.

Our skin chews are simply the skin of one animal, dried. Nothing added, nothing taken out. No bleach, no glue, no colourings, just one natural ingredient. That's how a chew should be. 🐾

• 🐪 Camel: big and chunky, a proper chew for bigger dogs or determined chewers
• 🦌 Venison: light and thin like goat, and a more unusual protein, good for dogs who need a change.
• 🐄 Beef: thicker and chewier, a great all-rounder
• 🐟 Braided Cod Skin: a twisted braid of dried cod skin, a great choice for dogs who need a break from meat proteins
• 🐐 Goat: light and thin, perfect for small dogs or a quick nibble
• 🐑 Braided Lamb: a twisted braid, the one most puppies start on. Suitable from 12 weeks.

Good to know: they're natural, so every piece is a little different in size and shape. Always supervise your dog with a chew, keep fresh water handy, and take it away once it's small enough to swallow whole.
