About the Team

Carey Marley BSc (Hons) RVN

My name is Carey Marley and my career as a Veterinary Nurse started in Yorkshire in 1997. I began as a kennel assistant for a local Veterinary Practice while I studied for my A-Levels. Back then, there weren’t many ‘qualified’ nurses. Most veterinary nurses were trained by the practice they worked in, but were unqualified. So much has changed in the years in between! After finishing my Animal Science degree in 2001 (Hartpury University), I worked as a Veterinary Care Assistant until qualifying in 2008, in a small animal practice in Southampton.

After qualifying, I spent a couple of years as a locum, working in various practices around the country, then became Head Nurse in a practice in St. Neots. Eventually, the children came along and I went back to locum work.

I have worked in day-to-day practice, referral hospitals and university hospitals during that time. Over the last few years, I have gained additional qualifications in Canine Behaviour, Feline Behaviour, Pet First Aid, Medical Nursing and Bereavement Counselling.

When I worked in clinical practice, I very much favoured the client/pet facing roles: nurse clinics; puppy parties; behaviour clinics and home visits. All skills proving to be very useful for St. Neots Pet Care!

St Neots Pet Care begins…

I set up St. Neots Pet Care at the beginning of 2020 to give me flexibility around my children.

In my spare time I enjoy yoga, gardening, sewing and spending time with my boys, climbing trees, making dens and nerf gun fights! I also really enjoy baking tasty treats and creating new recipes for my family.

As a family, we have had many pets! Currently, the furry family consists of Ceefer and Marty – both rescue cats with very different personalities but who get on very well! We also have the fantastic Emmett – a sprocker spaniel who has captured the hearts of all my boys already, despite his tender age!

Amy

Hello my name is Amy I’m more than proud being a part of St Neots Pet Care. There’s nothing better then doing a job you love that doesn’t even feel like work.

I have always been an animal lover and have owned dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, ferrets, parrots, chickens, rabbits, guineas pigs and reptiles.

I love learning new things every day and also have a keen interest in animal behaviour and extending my knowledge even more so in the future.

Karen

I have been working with St Neots Pet Care since February 2023 as a dog walker, pet sitter and general helper/dogs body!

I have adored animals since I was a baby and as a family we own dogs, rabbits, cockatiel and a bearded dragon.

My dream for the future is to own a small holding with lots of rescue animals.

Mission Statement
Professional, reliable pet care

My goal when I set up St. Neots Pet Care and dog walking was to improve the health and welfare of animals within our local community by providing reliable pet care.

Firstly, I decided to start the business because I realised pets and their owners would benefit hugely from having help and advice from a qualified professional in the comfort of their own home.

Tailored plans

Personal, tailored care plans can be given when a vet nurse is able to spend time getting to know the pet and their owner. The care plans I offer include: new puppy and kitten advice; nutritional and weight management plans tailored to each individual; and senior pet checks. In addition, I can help manage conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure (in conjunction with your own vet).

In addition to the need for a more personal, convenient Veterinary Nursing service, I realised that taking animals to a Veterinary Practice can be extremely difficult for some owners. There are various reasons, such as lack of transport or a stressed or anxious pet. These problems often lead to pets not going to see the vet as often as they may need, or a delay in treatment.

Responsible pet ownership

Above all, the motivation for St. Neots Pet Care was knowing how difficult it can be as a responsible pet owner. I help provide optimal care for your pets, working around busy lives, children and full-time jobs. However, I know finding someone to trust with our pets’ well-being is really difficult.

I decided to include a dog walking service, cat sitting and small pet visits because these things make pet owning simpler, easier and less stressful for people with busy lives or with health and mobility issues.
